My replacement arrived on schedule. He is young, bright, and experienced. And, he has the annoying habits of youth. Remembering numbers the first time he hears them. Learning the computer programs quickly and with ease. Not being totally exhausted at the end of a not-really-long day. I'll bet he can eat anything he wants and not get fat, too. He is also likable, personable, and politically savvy.
I'm approaching this life change with eagerness and a touch of anxiety. Over the last 43 years, I've have exactly 6 months when I wasn't working. I wonder if my plans will fill my days and my mind.
I'm looking forward to starting my next novel. The problem is that usually, by this point, the story is playing and replaying itself in my brain. I've been so busy with the job--and not able to turn it off when I'm home--I haven't laid out the story. But first I need to launch the lord.
Now that's exciting.
